Meet The Staff
What a great staff we have here at Monday's Child! They love working here, and love helping our customers.
Melinda Lynam has been the owner of Monday's Child since June of 2006. Prior to that, she ran a home-based business making smocked clothing for children, and also sewed and smocked for the previous owners of Monday's Child, Dolly Bullard and Glen Wood. Glen moved out of town and Dolly retired to Georgia, and they offered the shop to Melinda. Melinda has been a resident of Alexandria since 1976. Way back, she taught high school math at Fort Hunt High School, worked as a computer programmer and later in international sales at GTE Telenet.
Barbara O'Leary came to Monday's Child after another children's boutique in Old Town, Nina's Closet, closed their doors.
She brings a wealth of retailing experience with her, as she owned her own retail gift shop ("On The Avenue") in Chevy Chase for many years. Barbara, a resident of Old Town with her husband Donald, is our window dresser, among her other roles.
Mary Payne Gilbert came to Monday's Child in a unique way. Remarking to her husband one day, she said she would like to have a small job working for a shop like Monday's Child. The next day, we sent out our monthly email newsletter with a call for sales help! Very soon she was on our staff.
Pat Reynolds has been a long time Monday's Child customer, and also answered our call for help via our newsletter. Pat lives in Alexandria with her husband Ray and loves to dress her 5 grandchildren in Monday's Child clothing.
Ellen Pattisall is our safety net. She fills in about twice a month and is so valuable to us in that position. Ellen and Melinda met because their children rowed together at TC Williams High School.
Alison Rubin is our former staffer Bridie McGowan's granddaughter, a freshman (fresh-woman!?) (i.e. 9th grader) at Bishop Ireton and will be helping out on Sundays to save money for college....right, Alison????
